Meski AMD baru saja meluncurkan chipset 890GX tidak berarti belum ada manufaktur yang telah memproduksi motherboard-nya dengan chipset 890GX. Contohnya ECS telah mengeluarkan 3 varian mobo dengan chipset yang sama, IC890GXM-A, A890GXM-A dan A890GXM-AU (termasuk dalam Black Series). Saat ini yang akan dibedah adalah ECS A890GXM-A.
Form factor yang digunakan adalah ATX. Slot PCI Express x16 2.0 yang dipasang ada 3 buah. 2 diantaranya berwarna merah dan jika dipasang kartu grafis untuk mode CrossFire hanya akan berjalan di mode x8. Slot ketiga dengan warna orange hanya akan berjalan di x4. VGA onboard yang ada sudah punya memory internal (fitur SidePort) 128MB GDDR3 1.333MHz (dipasang di mobo). PCI Express x1 dibuat 2 slot dan 1 slot untuk PCI Express standard.
Modul memory yang dapat dipasang hingga 16GB DDR3 1.600MHz (via overclock - standard 1.333MHz). 16GB=4x4GB. Slot 1 dan 3 berwarna kuning sedangkan sot 2 dan 4 berwarna orange. Agar modul dual channel dapat aktif sempurna maka modul memory yang dipasang adalah 2 atau 4 buah. Jika hanya 2, dipasang pada slot dengan warna yang sama.
5 buah port SATA-600 tersedia dan 1 buah port lagi untuk eSATA-600. Meski chipset 890GX masih mendukung Paralel ATA namun mobo ECS A890GXM-A sudah tidak menyediakanya lagi. Begitu juga terhadap kontroler floppy disk. Tidak disediakan port USB 3.0 (hanya ada pada ECS A890GXM-AU). Tetapi USB 2.0 disdiakan 14 buah, 6 di panel belakang dan 8 sisanya melalui header. Yang cukup menarik adalah disediakannya tombol power dan reset di mobo. Sangat berguna saat baru instalasi (untuk pengetesan dan troubleshooting).
Audio ditangani oleh Realtek ALC892 codec dan mendukung 7.1 channel. Port Gigabit Ethernet disediakan 2 buah.
Port yang disediakan pada panel belakang antara lain: VGA output, DVI-D output, DisplayPort output, HDMI output, clear CMOS button, six USB 2.0 ports, one eSATA-600 port, two Gigabit Ethernet ports and shared analog 7.1 audio outputs.
Meski terdapat 4 konektor display tetapi hanya 2 yang dapat dipasang secara bersamaan. Konektor keyboard dan Ps/2 mouse ditiadakan. Jadi harus memakai yang USB.
Sirkuit voltage regulator menggunakan 7 fase 6 dipakai untuk CPU main coltage (Vcore) dan 1 digunakan untuk kontroler memory onboard. Juga dikenal sebagai konfigurasi 6+1. Ke 7 fase tadi juga diwakili oleh lampu LED yang berguna untuk mengetahui fase mana yang sedang digunakan. Sistem pendinginan yang dipakai adalah heatsink pasif yang bersambung ke chipset 890GX menggunakan heatpipe. Semua kapasitor yang digunakan adalah solid.
